Chris Bosh Deserves His Spot Among NBA All-Star Reserves, No Matter How Much You Hate Him
Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat was named among the East's NBA All-Star reserves, and there was an immediate backlash on Twitter and, one would assume, elsewhere. Bosh's selection was no surprise to those who pay attention -- he was clearly one of the top 12 players in the East through the first half of the season, starring on the conference's No. 2 team with 18 points and eight rebounds a game.
He's had some issues, of course; Bosh's comments about players diving for loose balls around other players' legs after Omer Asik knocked the forward out of a game were rightly lambasted. Hating the Heat has become a sport, and though LeBron James is a marquee target, Bosh has unintentionally made himself the butt of jokes.
But he’s a great player, and no amount of yuks or bad quotes can erase that.
Bulls fans argue that Carlos Boozer deserves the spot over Bosh. Carlos Boozer has played 30 games this season -- about a third less than Bosh -- and boasts numbers only nominally better than the Heat's star. The Bulls and Heat are tied in the standings, and some think that because Miami had two starters (James and Dwyane Wade) and Chicago had just one (Derrick Rose), that means that Boozer should get the nod over Bosh? Despite the 14 additional games missed? No way.
You can’t hate Bosh all you want, but you can’t take away his accomplishments. He deserves to be an All-Star.
