Cleveland Cavaliers Tie NBA Record With 24th Straight Loss

The Cleveland Cavaliers dropped their 24th-straight game on Saturday evening, falling to the Portland Trail Blazers, 111-105. The Cavs never-ending skid hasn't just been futile, it's downright embarrassing at this point. On Saturday, the streak hit historic levels as Cleveland tied its own NBA-record for consecutive losses, a dubious honor.

That’s right, Cleveland now owns both of the longest losing streaks in NBA history, an honor shared by this year’s Cavs team and 1981-1983 team. That streak spanned an offseason, beginning in March and ending in November. The 2010 streak is now the longest single-season losing streak after Saturday’s record loss.

After the jump, let’s take a look at a few things that have happened since the last time the Cavs won a game.

  • Christmas came and went, along with New Years. The holiday's weren't a happy time in Cleveland.
  • LeBron James tweeted about contraction, then apologized for it. He also tweeted about karma as the Cavs were getting blown out by the Los Angeles Lakers, then backed off the statement. LeBron has been busy.
  • The last time the Cavs won a game, the NFL was in the middle of week 15 play. The league will have crowned its champion before Cleveland snaps the streak.
  • Three NCAA teams are undefeated during the Cavs losing streak: Ohio State, Utah State and Coastal Carolina (!!!).
  • The last time the Cavs won was also the first day of the college football bowl season. Since then, college football has come and gone, crowning its national champion in the process. 32 of the 35 bowl games were played during the losing streak.

It’s been a tough year for the Cavs. From losing LeBron to losing an incredible amount of games, the franchise is quickly spiraling out of control. With the losses piling up, it might be time for Dan Gilbert to go for broke and put this record out of reach. if the team’s going to flop, it might as well do it spectacularly.

Now watch as the Cavs lose the NBA draft lottery and miss-out on the No. 1 pick.
