Amar'e Stoudemire scored 41 points as the New York Knicks earned vengeance against the Philadelphia 76ers 117-103 on Sunday. The Sixers had beaten the Knicks in Philadelphia on Friday; in that game, Amar'e was held to 21 points on 7-19 shooting. Stoudemire was incredibly efficient against the 76ers on Sunday, hitting 17 of his 21 field goal attempts and all seven free throws.
76ers Vs. Knicks: Amar’e Stoudemire Crushes Philly For 41 As New York Wins
It was just the second time this season Amar'e scored at least 40 points, a bit of an oddity considering he had a double-digit string of games over 30 points. Stoudemire had four 40-point games in all of last season, and now has 17 in his career. Those 17 40-point games ties Amar'e with Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony for No. 9 on the active list. Kobe Bryant leads the way with 106, and Shaquille O'Neal is the top big man with 49.
The Knicks had so little problem scoring on the Sixers on Sunday that it's a bit of a wonder Philadelphia could limit Amar'e and stop New York on Friday. Foul calls weren't really an issue, it seems. Landry Fields provided a second point of attack for the Knicks on Sunday, scoring 25 points on 10-13 shooting.
The Timofey Mozgov Experiment continues. Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni started the Russian rookie again, and Mozgov put out three points, eight rebounds and six fouls in 29 minutes. Ronny Turiaf didn't play, and D'Antoni relies on Stoudemire at center when Mozgov has to sit. New York did have several stretches without either of Stoudemire and Mozgov on the floor, placing Wilson Chandler, Fields and Shawne Williams in the hot seat. Unfortunately for the Sixers, the great Tony Battie couldn't take advantage.
