Amar’e Stoudemire Avoids Suspension; Technical Foul From Knicks’ Loss Rescinded

The NBA has rescinded a technical foul called on New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire in Thursday night’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Stoudemire and Mavericks Brendan Haywood were each called for technical fouls after jousting under the rim on a New York shot attempt, despite the scuffle looking quite routine. The technical foul was Stoudemire’s 16th of the season, which would have resulted in a one-game suspension from the NBA.

But after reviewing the call Friday, NBA officials determined neither Amar’e nor Haywood deserved technicals, and the league rescinded both. Stoudemire now officially has 15 technical fouls on the season. He will face suspension upon his next tech that isn’t rescinded.

Haywood was also given a technical; the double-technical foul referees sometimes use to assert control over a chippy game has been reviled by some fans for years, but it’s taken on increased importance this season as officials crack down on player complaints.
