Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball Has An Extensive Wikipedia Entry

Jon Bois has created a monster with his series of NBA playoff simulations using crappy 90s video games. In just a few days, his series has brought back feelings of nostalgia for many as we wonder why these video games were popular, or ever sold in the first place. And Thursday night on Twitter, Basketball Prospectus' Kevin Pelton not only found another video game to add to the pile, but also may have discovered the most interesting Wikipedia page ever created when he stumbled upon Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball.

The game itself is unspectacular except for the futuristic players wearing body armor and playing basketball in space. Just your standard, run-of-the-mill 90s basketball game with controls so simplistic even a three-year-old could play it. The directional pad moves the player, one button performs every action and, despite its futuristic appearances, the characters resemble blocks.

While the game may be mediocre, the Wikipedia entry for Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball is spectacular, to say the least. One man -- one brave, meticulous man -- created an exhaustive Wikipedia page for a 20-year-old game, citations and all. It goes as far as examining the social and economic impacts of the game, which I’m almost positive sold a grand total of 10 copies.

In case the page goes away, it’s preserved in a screenshot here as a time-capsule for future generations to marvel at.
