It’s Friday. The NBA regular season has been over for a full day, and the NBA still has 30 head coaches. This does not compute. The day after the regular season ends is usually known as Black Thursday, and we’re accustomed to seeing at least a couple head coaches canned by the start of the NBA Playoffs.
POLL: Which NBA Coach Will Be Fired First?
Sure, the franchise owners are busy meeting in New York City to talk about important things like the Kings' relocation and the looming lockout. That stuff is important, I guess. But fans demand justice! When are these lousy couches going to get their just desserts? We demand coaches' blood!
My money is on Kurt Rambis; in his predictably amazing press conference Wednesday, Wolves GM David Kahn all but fired a j'accuse at the second-year coach. (And who could blame him? It's obvious this team has the talent to be a top contender for the Western crown, if only the roster had a great leader to coax it that direction. Right?)
If things get too far, Larry Drew of the playoff-bound Hawks could be the first coach gone. That'd be unorthodox and probably unfair, but -- perhaps because of the lockout -- owners seem particularly loath to make a quick change.
