Rajon Rondo scored 14 points in the first quarter as the Boston Celtics held on to a 23-21 over the New York Knicks lead at the break in Game 2 of the teams' first-round NBA Playoffs series. Rondo scored on a procession of transition and secondary break layups; he ran the floor so hard Boston coach Doc Rivers actually pulled him eight minutes in, apparently to get him a breather.
Celtics Vs. Knicks Score: Rajon Rondo Pours In 14 In First Quarter As Boston Leads 23-21
The Celtics missed their first seven shots of the game and fell behind 4-1 before Rondo began to get out in transition. Toney Douglas, starting in place of injured Knicks point guard Chauncey Billups, picked up a quick foul and seemed to make a point to avoid contact on Rondo penetration. But Douglas couldn't avoid it, and made way for veteran third-stringer Anthony Carter, who came over in the Carmelo Anthony deal, just six minutes in.
Once Rondo exited, Boston got back to bricking, letting New York hang around. Anthony finished the quarter with nine points on 3-7 shooting; running mate Amar’e Stoudemire missed all four of his attempts plus two free throws.
