Mike D’Antoni On Rajon Rondo: ‘I’d Like To See Him Play On Minnesota And See How He Does’

Mike D'Antoni's New York Knicks are down 3-0 in their series to the Boston Celtics. Naturally, this is a good time for D'Antoni to start asking about how good Rajon Rondo really is. ESPN's halftime show included this quip, as transcribed and tweeted by CBS Sports' Ken Berger:

↵D’Antoni on Rondo: “I’d like to see him play on Minnesota and see how he does. ... They’ve got three Hall of Famers out there.”↵

Is there some validity to that hypothetical? Maybe: Rondo has had the tremendous fortune of playing with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen for much of his career, and those three have helped cover for some of Rondo's offensive deficiencies.

↵But saying that immediately before an elimination game in the playoffs sounds more bitter than biting, and further sounds like D’Antoni lamely trying to deflect criticism from himself. And thus, the day’s best Twitter meme — #DAntoniQuotes — was born. Long may it live, or something.
