Evan Dunlap of Orlando Pinstriped Post has a fantastic breakdown of the improvement we’ve seen in Dwight Howard’s jump shot this season. For his entire career, Howard has been hounded by charges he was one-dimensional on offense -- dunks and lay-ups with deep post position only -- but the All-NBA center has actually done well on shot jumpers this season.

Dunlap reports that Howard is shooting 39 percent on jump shots this season (up from 30 percent), and among four players who take at least one jumper out of post position per game -- that is, setting up in the post and maneuvering to a jump shot -- Howard has the No. 2 shooting percentage (behind Al Jefferson). The best notes, though, are that despite the shiny new tool, Howard still does most of his damage where he's most efficient: under the rim. And above the rim, as it were.
