After just one season on the job, the Portland Trail Blazers surprisingly parted ways with General Manager Rich Cho today. It was a bit of a shock move, possibly initiated by a lack of chemistry between Cho and team owner Paul Allen. “Obviously it’s a difficult day, but I want to truly thank Paul Allen and Larry Miller for the opportunity they gave me here in Portland,” said Cho. “I also want to thank the fans, players, coaches, business office staff and especially my basketball operations staff who have supported me along the way. I feel good about the work we’ve done here and I know the Trail Blazers are headed in the right direction.”
That’s probably the most standard-issue “I’m pissed off that I just got fired but I’m going to remain professional” parting statement that I’ve ever seen in my life. Cho has raised the bar on generic statements. He has to be seriously mad to spit out something that unoriginal. Truly awe-inspiring. In all seriousness, best of luck to Cho in his future endeavors. It would be hard to believe he can’t find another job in basketball shortly.
