Derrick Rose Wins NBA MVP In Landslide Vote

Derrick Rose has officially been announced as the 2011 NBA MVP, winning the award in a landslide vote. Rose collected 113 of 120 first-place votes to win the MVP, the league announced in a press release Wednesday. Rose becomes the youngest player to ever win the MVP award, winning at age 22 to top Wes Unseld, who won the 1968/69 MVP at age 23.

Rose's candidacy gained momentum throughout the season, and it was cemented after the Bulls finished the season with the best record in the NBA. He averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds for the Bulls this season, becoming the first player since 1973 to win the award after not garnering a vote in the previous season.

Rose received 1,182 points total (10 for first, seven for second, five for third, three for fourth and one for fifth) Dwight Howard finished second in the voting with 682 points, finishing with three first-place votes. LeBron James was third with four first-place votes and 522 points. Kobe Bryant (1, 428) finished fourth, while Kevin Durant (190 points) was fifth.
