Javaris Crittenton To Surrender To Police On Murder Charge, Claims He’s Innocent

After a whirlwind 48 hours that saw ex-NBA player Javaris Crittenton go from relative obscurity to a full-fledged FBI fugitive, Crittenton will turn himself in on Tuesday morning, surrendering to Atlanta authorities on a murder warrant. Crittenton’s lawyer, though, maintains that his client is innocent.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was first with the news, and quotes Crittenton’s lawyer, Brian Steel, saying, “Mr. Crittenton wants to clear his name. He’s innocent of the charges.”

Steel added that his client was willing to turn himself into Los Angeles authorities, but Atlanta police requested that he return home to Atlanta, where the crime originally took place. In addition to the murder charge, Crittenton had been facing a federal warrant for “unlawful flight to avoid prosecution”. For now, though, unlawful flight is the least of Crittenton’s concerns.

The woman who died in Atlanta on August 19th was a mother of four, and this case has already received a great deal of attention in the national. Now, with Crittenton set to surrender and assert his innocence, you have to think police will be asking--why did he run in the first place?
