Isiah Thomas' age-old practice of talking to the New York Knicks through the media (wink, wink) continued on Thursday, when, in a radio interview, he criticized the team's decision to give defensive anchor Tyson Chandler a four-year, $58 million contract. His logic now is that the money would have been better spent upgrading the backcourt.
Isiah Thomas Doesn’t Like Tyson Chandler Signing, Contradicts Himself
”If you don’t have great guards, it’s hard to put together a game plan,’’ Thomas said. “You’re only as good a coach as your guards.’’
Funny you should say that, Isiah, when you said something else when you were actually the Knicks' GM. Via an excerpt from Bill Simmons' "The Book Of Basketball," during which Thomas explained trading for Zach Randolph in 2008 despite also having Eddy Curry:
For instance, he explained the recent [Zach] Randolph trade by telling me (I’m paraphrasing), “Everyone’s trying to get smaller and faster. I want to go the other way. I want to get bigger. I want to pound people down low.“Oh, but now it’s a guard’s league. Oh-kay.
