NBA preseason scores: Dirk Nowitzki returns to Germany and Ty Lawson hits a game-winner for Denver

Dirk Nowitzki and Mavericks get win in Germany, Memphis Grizzlies hold off Real Madrid.

Dirk Nowitzki scored eight points on 3-for-9 shooting as the Dallas Mavericks beat Alba Berlin, 89-84, in Germany Saturday in Nowitzki's home country. Chris Kaman, who also played for the German National Team after discovering his German roots, scored 14 points on 7-for-9 shooting. Kaman was questionable to play after dealing with a back injury this week.

Newly acquired point guard Darren Collison had 14 points and nine assists for Dallas, and Vince Carter scored 14 points off the bench. The team's other new players, O.J. Mayo and Elton Brand, scored eight and five points respectively, and Shawn Marion had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Memphis Grizzlies hosted Spanish team Real Madrid in Memphis. Rudy Gay led all scorers with 27 points in the Grizzlies' 105-93 win. Spaniard Marc Gasol had 16 points, Mike Conley had 18 points and eight assists, Zach Randolph scored 12 points and Quincy Pondexter had 10 points off the bench. Former NBA player Rudy Fernandez led Real Madrid with 16 points.

No starter reached double figures, but the San Antonio Spurs defeated Italian team Montespaschi Siena 106-77 Saturday. Manu Ginobili and Gary Neal each scored 11 points off the bench, and DeJuan Blair and Will Witherspoon had 10 each off the bench. Former NBA player Bobby Brown of Montespaschi led all scorers with 20 points.

In the only game featuring two NBA teams, the Denver Nuggets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 106-104. Ty Lawson hit a shot in the lane at the buzzer to give the Nuggets the win. He finished with eight points and six assists.

Kenneth Faried led Denver with 18 points. Jordan Hamilton and Corey Brewer scored 17 and 16, respectively, off the bench.

Eric Bledsoe had 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Clippers, and new acquisition Jamal Crawford had 19 points off the bench.
