Portland Trail Blazers rookie point guard Damian Lillard got his career off to a strong start on Wednesday and in the process, he did something only two players have ever done.

By scoring 23 points and dishing out 11 assists in his NBA debut, Blazers point guard Damian Lillard joined an elite class of players.

Lillard scored 23 points to go along with 11 assists against the Lakers, becoming just the third player in NBA history with at least 20 points and 10 assists in their NBA debut, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Lillard was also the first player with at least 21 points and nine assists in his debut since LeBron James accomplished that feat in 2003.
Lillard, who Portland selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, didn’t waste any time on Wednesday, finishing the the first quarter with five points and four assists. Lillard then followed that up with a strong second quarter and went into halftime with nine points and seven assists. He increased his scoring in the second half, scoring seven points in both the third and fourth quarters while also adding two assists in each quarter.
He will attempt to follow up his record-setting performance on Friday night when Portland travels to Oklahoma City to face the Thunder.
