Mike Brown is surely somewhere watching this game like, “Man, you couldn’t wait for us to play the Warriors to bump my record up? This is like firing a five-star general the day before an incursion against Luxembourg.” Kobe Bryant had 27 points and did not, as far as I know, give Bernie Bickerstaff the death stare.

In a busy NBA night capping a busy NBA day, the Lakers (finally) handled business and the Knicks looked as real as ever.

Heat 95, Hawks 89
The Hawks look really quite good, and Jeff Teague is ratcheting up for a July payday -- he had 20 points and 11 assists. But the Heat are too much. Worth noting that the Hawks were +4 in the first half while T.I. provided commentary and -10 in the second half when he didn’t.
Grizzlies 93, Grizzlies 85
Tony Allen shut down James Harden (4-18 from the floor, five turnovers) and the rest of the Rockets couldn’t make it up. Memphis looks really, really good early on.
Sixers 106, Celtics 100
Methinks Kevin Garnett is about to get a little less friendly as Boston falls to 2-3. Rajon Rondo had 20 assists -- yes, 20 -- but shot 6-17 from the floor. More importantly, Rondo and Courtney Lee got slashed by Jrue Holiday (21 and 14) and Evan Turner (25 points, 11 rebounds).
Nuggets 104, Jazz 84
Utah was getting blown out hard, but made a comeback push that the Nuggets’ reserves smacked down late. Corey Brewer scored 20! Live by the Corey Brewer, die by the Corey Brewer.
Timberwolves 96, Pacers 94
1. Rick Adelman is a danged magician, as he has the Loveless, Rickyless Wolves at 4-1. 2. Indiana might be in trouble if they can’t compete with Danny Granger.

In a shocking turn of events, DeMarcus Cousins struggled with foul trouble and played fewer than 25 minutes.

Someday, Detroit will win. Perhaps in 2013.

Ben Gordon dropped 34 in the losing effort. This Charlotte team is twice as competitive as the 2011-12 version ... and it’s still going to battle for the worst record in the league.
