NBA Players Association will appeal DeMarcus Cousins’ suspension

The NBA Players Association is set to appeal the two-game suspension of Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins for getting into a verbal confrontation with San Antonio Spurs broadcaster and former NBA player Sean Elliott, according to Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee. The union thinks the penalty is too severe, and will attempt to get the suspension lifted before the Kings' next game, which is Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. Cousins did not play in the Kings' loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

Cousins got into an altercation with Elliott following the Kings’ game against the Spurs on Friday night after Elliott made some comments critical of him on the Spurs broadcast. Cousins did not get physical with Elliott, but apparently was sufficiently “hostile” to draw a suspension from the league.

Cousins, a third-year player out of Kentucky, has been trailed by questions regarding his character since he was in college. Through six games this season, he’s averaging 17.3 points and 9.9 assists per game.
