Spurs 84, Lakers 82
To be honest, the “do whatever you want to do including the Princeton, the Triangle and the Pentagram offense, just play because I’m not getting paid enough to really care” offense that the Lakers have run under Bernie Bickerstaff was bound to come crashing down at some point. L.A. shot for 42 percent with 17 turnovers; only Kobe Bryant was good on offense (28 points). The Spurs, meanwhile, weren’t a whole lot better on offense: they committed far fewer turnovers (eight) but shot below 40 percent. In the end, a beautiful play for ... Danny Green sealed the deal with a game-winning three-pointer. Danny Green, y’all!
NBA scores: Spurs creep past Lakers, Knicks remain unbeaten
The Lakers couldn’t beat the Spurs on Tuesday, as Danny Green brought a dagger to a basketball fight. The Knicks, however, triumphed for the fifth straight time early this season.
Knicks 99, Magic 89
The Knickerbockers can’t be stopped! J.R. Smith had another lovely game off of the bench (21 points, 9-14 shooting) and Carmelo Anthony is doing work (25 points, eight rebounds). Orlando finally wasn’t completely devastating on offense -- yes, scoring 89 points is a massive improvement for this club -- but the defense wasn’t there. Orlando actually shot better than New York, but committed 20 turnovers to the Knicks’ nine.
Bobcats 92, Wizards 76
How bad are the Wizards? Fall to 0-6 by losing to the Bobcats by double digits bad. Charlotte’s two point guards continue to be a strength, as Ramon Sessions (21) and Kemba Walker (17) were the team’s top two scorers. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the No. 2 pick in June, is the real engine of this surprisingly fun club, though. Charlotte is 3-3 on the season. Raptors 74, Pacers 72
Reminder: the Jazz had just dropped 140 on the Raptors (albeit in a triple-overtime game). This game featured 146 points total. The Pacers continue to struggle offensively without Danny Granger, and it might be reached a crisis moment. Indiana shot 32 percent. Toronto obviously wasn’t much better (36 percent), and the Raptors stunningly survived a fourth quarter in which they scored a total of five points on 1-15 shooting. What a dispiriting loss for Indiana.
Nets 114, Cavaliers 101
Kyrie Irving (34 points, eight assists) and Anderson Varejao (35 points, 18 rebounds) blew all the way up, but the Nets had more effective contributors. Its three stars (Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez) each went over the 23-point mark and shot a combined 29-50. That will help the offense immensely.
Blazers 103, Kings 86
Don’t make me talk about this game, okay? I’ll note that the Kings were without DeMarcus Cousins (suspension), Isaiah Thomas (death in the family) and, after the first quarter, Aaron Brooks (injury). The Kings are still terrible, but not as terrible as they looked Tuesday. But pretty terrible.
