Los Angeles Lakers fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The Lakers picked up their first win of the regular season, cruising to a 108-79 win over the Detroit Pistons at home on Sunday night.

The Los Angeles Lakers took control early and breezed to their first win of the season, a 108-79 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night.

Dwight Howard was efficient from the field, connecting on 12 of 14 shots for 28 points, while chipping in seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Kobe Bryant, normally the aggressor for the Lakers, played a facilitator role, attempting 10 field goals and dishing out eight assists.
The Pistons were led by Jonas Jerebko, who came off the bench for 18 points. Detroit had difficult stopping the L.A. in the paint, where the Lakers scored 56 points.
L.A. came out of the gate hot, scoring 34 points in the first quarter while holding the Pistons to just 13. Despite being outscored in the fourth quarter, the Lakers were up more than enough to rest their starters, none of which played more than 33 minutes.
The Lakers now get a couple days off before returning to action against the Utah Jazz on the road on Wednesday night. Detroit will search for its first win when it takes on the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night as the Pistons continue their five-game West Coast road trip.
