Chicago Bulls point guard Nate Robinson has provided a scoring punch off the bench this season, but the team may be considering cutting him, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune. Robinson's contract does not become fully guaranteed until Jan. 10, meaning the team can release him at any point before then without incurring any penalties.

Rookie Marquis Teague has played better in extended minutes of late, and with Derrick Rose expected to return at some point in the season, the Bulls could potentially find themselves with a glut at point guard. The Bulls spent much of the offseason furiously attempting to get under the league's luxury tax line, but Johnson reports that they're still a little more than $3 million above the $70 million threshold.
The Bulls have never paid the luxury tax and are expected to make a move before the end of the season that will get them under the tax. That could mean a trade of shooting guard Richard Hamilton, or it could mean the end of Robinson's tenure as a Bull.
Robinson, who is set to make $854,389 this year if the Bulls keep him, would almost certainly be immediately snatched up by a team looking for scoring help from its backcourt. Robinson has averaged 10.8 points and 3.6 assists in 21 minutes per game this year while shooting 42 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range.
