Phil Jackson is not interested in Nets’ coaching job

The Brooklyn Nets will reportedly make a phone call to Phil Jackson, but he isn’t interested in taking their open coaching job.

The Brooklyn Nets plan to gauge the interest of Phil Jackson in becoming the team's next head coach, according to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN. However, Jackson is not interested, his agent tells NBA.com's David Aldridge.

Brooklyn relieved Avery Johnson of his head coaching duties on Thursday. The team currently sits in third place in the Atlantic Division with a 14-14 record, which team owner Mikhail Prokhorov is displeased with.

The decision to fire Johnson reportedly came directly from Prokhorov and was something that he had been considering throughout December.

Citing a source, Stein reports that the Nets plan to engage in a broad search for their next head coach, which will include an inquiry to Jackson's level of interest. Jackson last coached during the 2010-11 season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

When the Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown earlier this season, Jackson was one of the candidates the team considered for the vacant position. Los Angeles ultimately hired Mike D'Antoni.

Jackson has won 11 NBA Championships as a head coach and has an all-time record of 1155-485 during the regular season, as well as a 229-104 record in the postseason.
