Dwight Howard fined $35,000 by NBA for flagrant foul

Dwight Howard was fined, but not suspended, for his flagrant foul 2 on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard was fined $35,000 by the NBA on Thursday after Howard was called for a flagrant foul 2 on Wednesday.

Howard was whistled for the foul and ejected from Wednesday's game against Denver after he hit Kenneth Faried in the face while attempting to block a shot. After the game, Howard said it was a hard foul, but he's been fouled harder than that without the opponent being called for a flagrant 2. While he was fined, Howard was not suspended for the incident and will start Friday against Portland.

Even though he avoided a suspension, the flagrant foul moved Howard closer to an automatic suspension. Wednesday’s flagrant foul was Howard’s third of the season, giving him four points under the NBA’s flagrant foul policy. If he accumulates six flagrant foul points, he will automatically be suspended for one game. Wednesday was the first time Howard has been whistled for a flagrant 2 this season. He was called for flagrant foul 1 against Dallas on Oct. 30 and Sacramento on Nov. 21.
