Carmelo Anthony injury: Knicks forward out vs. Kings

The Knicks will be without the East’s top scorer again on Friday.

USA TODAY Sports

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will miss a second straight game on Friday with a knee injury as the team travels to Sacramento to take on the Kings, according to the New York Daily Post. Anthony also missed New York's narrow win in Phoenix on Wednesday after suffering an apparent hyperextension against the Lakers on Christmas Day.

The Daily Post points out that the team does not plan to conduct an MRI and is confident there is no significant structural damage. There has been no decision as to whether or not the Knicks star will play on New Year’s Day against Portland.

Anthony is the NBA’s third-leading scorer at 28.5 points per game. He is shooting a career-best 43 percent from beyond the arc, helping him post a 54 effective field goal percentage. Anthony’s efficiency has led the Knicks to a fast start at 21-8, and a comfortable lead in the Atlantic Division.
