Carmelo Anthony injury update: Knicks’ star will not play vs. Heat

Carmelo Anthony will miss the Knicks’ game with the Miami Heat after cutting his finger on Wednesday.

According to Brad Windhorst, Carmelo Anthony will not play on Thursday as the New York Knicks face the Miami Heat. He needed five stitches in the middle finger of his non-shooting hand after cutting himself on Wednesday. Anthony sustained the injury while diving over the Knicks bench in a 100-98 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

In addition to Anthony not playing, the Knicks will also still be missing a pair of Game 1 starters from last season's Eastern Conference playoff matchup. Neither Amar'e Stoudemire or Iman Shumpert will be dressing for the Heat game, as both continue to rehab injuries.

Anthony is currently No. 3 in the NBA in scoring, averaging 26.4 points per game. He has also chipped in with 6.7 rebounds per contest, and he’s been averaging over 35 minutes per night.

With Anthony out on Thursday, the Knicks will need to rely on J.R. Smith to pick up more of the scoring load. Smith has averaged 13.2 points per game in just over 33 minutes per contest this season. The game can be seen on TNT.
