Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari has a "significant ankle sprain," the team announced on Tuesday. Gallinari suffered the injury during the Nuggets' 99-90 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night. He will be in a walking boot for 3-5 days, and his status will be determined after that.
Danilo Gallinari Injury Update: Denver Nuggets Forward Has ‘Significant Ankle Sprain’
Gallinari suffered the injury in the third quarter and was pulled from the game. The Nuggets initially suspected he suffered a chip fracture, but they determined that was from a previous injury and was playable.
Gallinari, 23, is going through a breakout season, leading the Nuggets in scoring at 17 points per game. The Nuggets recently rewarded him with a four-year, $42 million contract extension.
Denver is also dealing with injuries to fellow starters Arron Afflalo and Timofey Mosgov, so losing Gallinari for any amount of time is significant in the tight Western Conference standings.
