Net Cords: Evan Turner’s Historically Awesome Rebounding Numbers

When the Philadelphia 76ers used the second overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft on Evan Turner from Ohio State, fans expected great things. The 6-7 guard was known for his unique combination of ball handling, point guard skills and ability to make big shots, but since coming to the NBA Turner's performance has disappointed some observers.

He’s learning to play off the ball more than he did in college and despite his clutch shooting at Ohio State, the Sixers are still struggling in late-game situations.

SB Nation’s Liberty Ballers, however, has discovered one part of Turner’s game that has not only translated well from college, but is at historic levels for his position.

Evan Turner's Tremendous Rebounding Pushes Sixers in Transition - Liberty Ballers
We've been telling you again and again that Evan Turner's defensive rebounding ability is not to be ignored. It is, as the saying goes, what translates the most from college to the pros. Turner had a 23.5 DREB% at Ohio State and a decent 16.9 last season. But this year, he's been absurd, especially in the past four games where he's hauled in a ridiculous 48 rebounds. For a guard, that's absolutely unprecedented.

His 23.7 DREB% is easily the best for a guard or guard/forward IN THE HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE.
