As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the fate of Dwight Howard remains in total limbo. If the Magic did let the deadline pass without dealing Howard, he would be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He has a $19.5 million salary on the books for next season, but he’s almost assured of using his early termination option to sign a new deal.
A Tuesday morning report said that Howard plans to join the Brooklyn Nets before the 2012-13 season no matter what happens at the deadline. Deron Williams, the Nets' star, can also become a free agent in July.
