Raptors guard Jerryd Bayless is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn left oblique muscle, the team announced Tuesday. He originally suffered the injury on March 21, missing two games before attempting to play through the pain on Monday.

In nearly 23 minutes per game, Bayless has averaged a career-high 11.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. He has spent most of the season coming off the bench, but he has also held his own in 11 starts, averaging 17.8 points and 5.3 assists, including 21.8 points per game and 7.6 assists during a five-game stretch from March 11-17 when starter Jose Calderon was sidelined with a sprained ankle.
Bayless, 23, is a restricted free agent this summer. He’s productive while on the court but is a bit undersized (he’s generously listed at 6-foot-3) and prone to injury (he has already missed 19 games this season), making a multi-year extension this summer unlikely.
With a 16-34 record, the Raptors are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division and nine games back for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
