The Sacramento Kings drafted a couple of guards in the summer of 2011. One was the highly (ridiculously) touted Jimmer Fredette with the 10th overall pick. It's hard to imagine now, but at one point Jimmer was bigger than "Linsanity" and "Tebowmania" combined.

The Kings also used the 60th pick in the draft (aka the last pick in the NBA draft), to take 5-9 point guard Isaiah Thomas from Washington.
Pac-10 hoops fans knew of Thomas’ propensity to hit big shots and his incredible confidence level, but even his biggest supporters couldn’t have predicted what happened this season. Instead of Jimmer standing out with his shooting and play-making abilities, it’s been the spunky former Husky that was jumped up and seized the reigns.

I say this without Kings bias: What Isaiah Thomas is doing right now is beyond any precedent previously set in the NBA, at least during the two-round draft era. In fact, Thomas has been so good that we have recently stopped thinking of him as a rookie. Suddenly, we are thinking of him as a point guard.
The Kings have an odd history with overachieving point guards who's careers never seem to go anywhere. Bobby Brown. Pooh Jeter. Quincy Douby. Those guys aren't exactly planning their Hall of Fame acceptance speeches.
We’ll have to wait and see how the story of this undersized point guard with the famous name (no relation to Isiah Thomas) plays out. In the mean time, just because he plays for the Kings, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know about him.
