Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant skipped out on several events at NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando while claiming he was sick and could not attend them. The NBA, however, does not buy his story. The league has fined Bryant $40,000 for missing a news conference and a required charity event, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today.

This news concludes what was a difficult All-Star Weekend for Bryant. In addition to the fines, he suffered a broken nose and a concussion thanks to a hard foul from Dwyane Wade in the All-Star Game. Bryant has played with a mask on his face ever since the injury, even donning a black one before the Lakers' game against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night.
