After a blistering start to the lockout-shortened 2011-12 NBA season, the Portland Trail Blazers saw their postseason chances go from bad, to worse, to nonexistent as they continued to struggle. They moved some players at the trade deadline and appeared to resolve themselves to playing out the string, but it appears that they can still manage some bad news.
LaMarcus Aldridge Injury: Blazers’ Star To Undergo Season-Ending Hip Surgery
The Portland Trail Blazers will be losing their most productive player for the rest of the season. LaMarcus Aldridge will undergo right hip surgery.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported on Thursday that the Blazers will be losing All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge for the remainder of the season. Aldridge will be undergoing surgery to repair a right hip injury and will not be on the court for Portland again until next season. From the official announcement:
“In his most recent MRI, and following further evaluation, it’s been determined that LaMarcus has a slight labral tear and will require arthroscopic surgery,” said Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. “LaMarcus’ priority is that he’s 100-percent healthy going into training camp this fall and we all feel this is the best course. He’s had an All-Star year and his long-term health is the most important thing to consider.”
Ben Golliver of Blazer’s Edge reports that the recovery time for the injury is expected to be 2-4 months, so his rehab should be completed in plenty of time for next season, barring any unforeseen setbacks.
Aldridge had been averaging 21.7 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game this season.
