The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics are set to square off on national television Tuesday night, but there's a good chance much of the TNT audience is going to be disappointed with the players wearing the jerseys of two of the more prominent teams in recent seasons.
Heat Vs. Celtics: Both Teams Looking To Rest Stars As Playoffs Approach
The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics are both likely going to rest their stars, meaning Tuesday night’s national game on TNT might not be as exciting as it could have been.
With both teams securely entrenched in their playoff positions with very little likely in the way of moving up, there's a solid chance that both the Heat and Celtics will rest a few of their key players for the game on Tuesday night (8 p.m., TNT). That likely means no LeBron James, Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade for the Heat and no Ray Allen or Rajon Rondo for the Celtics -- with the caveat that Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett could sit, too.
“If I thought our guys were banged up, I’d sit them. That’s not even a question for me,” Rivers said on the team’s website. “I’m taking rest and rhythm over home court.”
That might not be exactly what the TNT executives wanted to hear for the first game of their weekly Tuesday night doubleheader, but our friends at CelticsBlog have no qualms about it. In fact, they've decided that playing the Atlanta Hawks on the road instead of the Orlando Magic will work out just fine.
It’s weird saying all this, considering where we were nine weeks ago. The Celtics lost five games in a row heading into the All-Star break, they were 15-17, and they were facing the very real possibility of missing the playoffs altogether. Now they’re going in as division champions, and their worst enemy might be overconfidence.
Are they facing Orlando this weekend? Are they at home? No and no. But who cares? If all goes well for the C’s in the coming weeks, they’ll have a lot more on their mind than petty little questions like those.
That might seem like a bit too much overconfidence, but it’s certainly not a bad attitude to have considering that matchup is almost a foregone conclusion anyway.
