Larry Bird Will Leave The Indiana Pacers After The Season, According To Report

Indiana Pacers team president Larry Bird will step down following the season, according to a report.

Presswire

As many speculated, Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird will step down following the conclusion of the 2012 NBA season, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Bird has told Pacers owner Herb Simon to start interviewing candidates to replace him following the season, according to the report.

Bird’s contract will be up at the end of this season. He has not been clear publicly about his future, but Berger reports that Bird is 100 percent sure that he will depart following the season.

Bird has been the Pacers' president for several years, presiding over their rebuilding effort following the 2004 brawl against the Pistons. He has shepherded the Pacers through a long rebuilding effort that has started to turn around this season. The Pacers finished the regular season 42-24 and have earned the No. 3 seed in the NBA playoffs.
