Knicks, Mike Woodson Finalize Contract Extension, According To Report

Days after reports that Mike Woodson would indeed stay on as interim head coach for the New York Knicks since Mike D'Antoni resigned fairly early in the NBA season. After a bit of a behind-the-scenes kerfuffle, it sounds as though Woodson will be able to drop the "interim" tag thanks to a long-term extension.

The team was expected to go after a high-profile head coach, but Newsday is reporting that the team has instead decided to bring Woodson back for the 2012-13 season.

The Knicks officially are expected to remove the interim label from Mike Woodson’s title this week, according to multiple sources. The two sides are working on a long-term deal, the sources said, and something could be done within the next couple of days.

If the Knicks were interested in re-signing Woodson, it would seem this week was the time to make a decision. The Charlotte Bobcats job has been open for awhile and, after the Orlando Magic fired Stan Van Gundy on Monday, the coaching searches are all about to heat up.
