Mike Woodson took over as interim head coach of the New York Knicks when Mike D'Antoni left in March and lead the Knicks to an 18-6 finish in the regular season. Despite the fact that the Knicks are in a 3-1 hole in the NBA Playoffs to the Miami Heat, Woodson has emerged as a top candidate to keep the job. Mike Woodson appears to be close to having the interim title removed, as the team and Woodson have initiated contract talks according to the New York Daily News.

The New York Knicks and interim head coach Mike Woodson have begun working on a contract, according to a report.
The Knicks have initiated talks that would keep Woodson as the team's head coach for the foreseeable future, the Daily News has learned. The talks are only in the preliminary stages but it is clear that Madison Square Garden management is convinced Woodson is the right man for the job and will not pursue either Phil Jackson or Kentucky head coach John Calipari.
The Knicks won their first playoff game on Sunday since April 2001 under Woodson and he has the support of some of the marquee players on the Knicks, including Carmelo Anthony and general manager Glen Grunwald.
