Kyle Lowry Sees Beef With Rockets, Kevin McHale Tough To Overcome

Kyle Lowry appears to want to leave the Rockets if Kevin McHale is sticking around.

Presswire

Kyle Lowry tossed a stick of dynamite in Houston on Friday as the point guard told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle that he doesn't believe that he can co-exist with Rockets coach Kevin McHale and may need to be traded if the team doesn't make a change on the sidelines.

For their parts, McHale and Rockets GM Daryl Morey said that the issues between the player and coach are resolvable. At central issue appears to be two items: a late-season in-game confrontation between Lowry and McHale in which the player had to be restrained by teammates, and the presence of Goran Dragic, who excelled as Lowry dealt with injuries.

Dragic is a restricted free agent, and Houston has indicated that keeping him is a goal. Lowry told Feigen that he believes either he or Dragic will be somewhere else next season.

The devolution of Lowry’s relationship with McHale is a sad conclusion to what had been a breakout season that had many analysts slotting the point guard for an All-Star spot in February. But once injury and a nasty illness forced him out of the line-up for a spell, he came back to Earth and finished the season averaging 14.3 points, 6.6 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game.
