Warriors-Jazz Trade Talks For Golden State’s Draft Pick Likely Dead, According To Report

The Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz are not likely to complete a deal that would return to Golden State the 2012 first-round draft pick the Warriors sent to the Jazz in a previous trade, according to a report by Marcus Thompson of the Contra Coast Times.

The Jazz own the Warriors’ first-round selection in next month’s draft, but only if it falls outside the top seven picks. The Warriors, who had the seventh-worst record in the league last year, were in discussions to get the pick back outright, but those appear to have fallen through.

The Warriors have a 73 percent chance of keeping the pick in Wednesday’s NBA draft lottery, as the only way they could lose it is if a lottery team with a better record than them jumps into the top three. However, they were in discussions about sending future draft considerations to the Jazz so that they would definitely get the 2012 pick back. Those discussions appear to have broken up after the Jazz asked for more than the Warriors were willing to give.

The Warriors originally dealt the pick to the New Jersey Nets in a 2008 trade for Marcus Williams. The Jazz received it from the Nets as part of the Deron Williams trade in February 2011.
