Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash has added another responsibility to his plate. The superstar point guard has also been named the general manager of the Canadian Olympic team, the squad announced in a press conference on Tuesday.

Nash emerged as the top target of the country’s sports governing body, according to The Globe And Mail.

The sport’s national governing body has had the two-time NBA MVP from Victoria in its sights for some time to head up a program that hasn’t made an Olympic appearance since the 2000 Games in Sydney.

During Tuesday’s press conference, Nash said that, due to his NBA duties, he will lean on assistants Maurizio Gherardini and Rowan Barrett to do a lot of the legwork. Team Canada still does not have a head coach after Leo Rautins resigned in September.

The squad still has a chance to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics, but must do so in a last-chance tournament in Turkey in June. Nash, as a player, led Team Canada to a seventh-place finish in 2000 in Sydney, the team’s last Olympic appearance.
