The Atlanta Hawks have already scored 16 points in the first six minutes of the third quarter, which is a pretty amazing number for them. The obvious talking point will be something along the lines of “better ball movement.”
Finally, The Hawks’ Offense Has Player Movement
But really, the reason things have gotten better is the thing that causes ball movement: player movement. After stationing a man in the weakside corner too much in the first half, the Hawks are starting to have that guy cut to the middle to occupy defenders. The defense is forced to react, which leads to open passing lanes, which leads to better ball movement.
The test will be if this keeps up beyond the first six minutes of the second half. It’s a lot harder to devote yourself to making that cut when your legs are heavy.
