The Philadelphia 76ers had a resurgent year during the strike-shortened 2011-12 NBA season, earning a playoff berth and looking like legitimate contenders in the postseason. As they head into the 2012-13 season, the Sixers are looking to become even more of a threat and are trying to strengthen the franchise, starting with the front office.

While the team is focusing on finding a new general manager and appears to closing in on Danny Ferry for the position, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that Sixers head coach Doug Collins is making a push for more power within the organization.

Collins wants increased power, sources said, and ultimately wants a new GM to answer to him. Ferry, who was the Cleveland Cavaliers' GM from 2005-2010, is reluctant to accept the job without an ability to report direct to ownership, sources said. So far, Ferry has been on a fact-finding mission to understand the dynamics around how the organization will restructure the front office.

Wojnarowski states that the 76ers are currently wrestling with the decision of how much power they are willing to give Collins. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.
