Despite Phil Jackson's retirement after last season, the 11-time NBA champion remains the target of rumors about coaching and potential front-office vacancies around the league. Although Jackson hasn't ruled out returning to the NBA entirely, he did rule out coaching for the New York Knicks prior to the team hiring interim head coach Mike Woodson full-time. In an interview on HBO's "Real Sports," Phil Jackson said, "I wasn't going to take the job, that's for sure."

Jackson said he felt the Knicks roster was "clumsy" and the players "don't fit well together," noting Amar'e Stoudemire needs to be in a specific system and that Carmelo Anthony didn't pass the basketball enough.

The former Los Angeles Lakers head coach was also rumored to be in the mix for a front office position with the Orlando Magic, but indicated that it would be too far away from his Montana home. The 66-year-old Jackson is currently recovering from knee surgery, but did say that there “might be” an NBA job that could lure him out of retirement. However, he did not specify what kind of situation it would need to be.
