Jeremy Lin Officially Trademarks ‘Linsanity’

Via Kelly Dwyer at Ball Don’t Lie, we have learned that New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin has successfully obtained the trademark to the term “Linsanity.” Good for him, definitely. But at the same time, this may very well open the floodgates for any number of athletes to attempt to trademark any number of innocuous phrases and/or New York Post headline-puns. What could we be in store for? I’m glad you asked!

Other potential trademark filings:

- Vontaze Burfict tries to trademark “Practice Make Burfict”

- Andy Murray obtains patent on “Will You Murray Me?” T-shirts; people become deeply confused

- Randy Moss opts for copyright on “MOSS-SOME!”

- Kobe Bryant tries to register a line of driving attire called “Lane Bryant”

- Carlos Santana attempts to trademark “Carlos Santana,” but Ervin Santana counters by attempting to trademark “Santana”

- Raul Ibanez trademarks “Raul, So Cool” without incident, since that is the stupidest catch phrase of all time

All I’m saying here is that maybe we should try to rope things in a little. Putting a trademark on “Linsanity” may be a bridge too Favre.
