Tis the season, everyone knows, for NBA mock drafts in every nook and cranny of the internet. SB Nation’s own Tom Ziller undoubtedly does the most entertaining version, but ESPN’s now-annual mock done by NBA players is always an entertaining read ... especially when it involves a little bit of controversy!
NBA Mock Draft Response Confirms Hamed Haddadi Is In Shape
The majority of 2012's player mock includes NBA players picking their collegiate counterparts that either attended their alma mater or played on their AAU team. Memphis Grizzlies wing Tony Allen went in a different direction, however, with the selection of 7-foot Georgetown Hoyas center Henry Sims.
“Honestly, I don’t know that much about him, but if you can get size this late in the draft, that’s a good thing,” says Grizzlies guard Allen. “I like my man Hamed Haddadi [Memphis’ backup center] if he can get into shape and step things up, but Sims wouldn’t be bad coming off the bench.” (Sims averaged 11.6 ppg and six rpg.)
This probably wasn’t a very good pick in the first place considering Draft Express has Sims slotted to be selected with the 27th pick in the second round whereas Allen used the Grizzlies’ 25th pick in the first round to select him, but it gets worse -- Allen says he essentially made the pick because he thought his teammate -- and Iranian sensation -- Hamed Haddadi was too out of shape to contribute.
Haddadi took to the Internet to clear that up, however, succinctly refuting the rumor for all of Twitter to see:
