Blake Griffin agreed to a maximum value contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday, reports Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times. Griffin was eligible for an early extension as a first-round pick with three years in the league. Other 2009 draft products are also eligible for early extensions before the 2012-13 season begins. The new contract won’t actually take effect until the 2013-14 season.

Griffin was eligible for a Rose Rule contract -- worth 30 percent of the salary cap -- due to two All-Star berths. The Clippers also wisely selected him as their five-year extension choice. Teams can only offer one such contract at any given time.

Turner reports that Clippers point guard Chris Paul continued to delay signing an extension. The reported offer to CP3 was for $60 million for three years. Paul is scheduled to become a free agent in 2013.
