Blake Griffin Injury Confirmed By Clippers, MRI Expected Soon

The Los Angeles Clippers have confirmed that star power forward Blake Griffin injured his left knee during a scrimmage for the U.S. Olympic basketball team, and will have an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. Griffin will travel back to Los Angeles Thursday for treatment on what the team called "left knee discomfort."

“Upon arrival in Los Angeles, Griffin will undergo an MRI and be examined by the Clippers’ medical staff. On Sunday, he will also be examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic,” the team said in a statement. “An announcement concerning their joint conclusion and a further course of action will be made available by the Clippers, as soon as possible after that.”

Anthony Davis, one of the last players cut from the Olympic squad, will take Griffin's place in Thursday night's tune-up game against the Dominican Republic, despite having recently injured an ankle himself. Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears reports that USA Basketball Director Jerry Colangelo said that even if Griffin is ruled out for the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics in London, that doesn't mean Davis has made the team. TNT's David Aldridge said Colangelo has no plans to add anyone else to the team.
