The Brooklyn Nets have acquired Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks for Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, Jordan Williams and a 2013 protected first-round draft pick originally owned by the Houston Rockets, SB Nation's Nets blog Nets Daily reports. The Nets did not have to surrender promising youngster MarShon Brooks or free-agent guard Gerald Green in the trade.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski confirms the deal’s parameters and adds that the Nets will not have to send their own first-round pick in 2013 in the trade.

Johnson is an all-star caliber player that is coming off yet another strong season, but he has four years and nearly $89 million left on a maximum contract he originally signed in 2010. Nevertheless, the Nets are looking to demonstrate to free-agent point guard Deron Williams that they are committed to winning, and they are apparently willing to move on from their ongoing Dwight Howard pursuit to make it happen.

Earlier, Howard made it clear that he wants a trade from the Magic and the Nets are the only team on his wish list. However, by trading for Johnson, the Nets will make it more difficult to assemble a strong trade package to acquire the Magic center.
