The Philadelphia 76ers have made some interesting moves lately, and in a move perhaps signaling something bigger, they continued to make changes on Friday morning. The team signed Nick Young to a relatively reasonable deal, and then moments later, reports emerged that the team is going to use the amnesty clause on Elton Brand.
Philadelphia To Use Amnesty Clause On Elton Brand, According To Report
The Philadelphia 76ers have decided to wipe the final year of Elton Brand’s contract from their books using the amnesty clause.

The Sixers’ decision to use the amnesty clause (a one-time clause instituted following last season’s lockout) on Brand was first reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brand signed a five-year, $80 million deal with the Sixers as a free agent in 2008, but the team has decided to wipe the final season of that contract from their books. They’ll still have to pay him -- provided another team isn’t interested in claiming the $18 million contract he’s owed to have him play for them this season -- but they now have a decent chunk of wiggle room (roughly $6 million) in the salary where his contract used to be.
It’s unclear exactly what the Sixers are looking to do at this time, but it does seem to be getting interesting in Philly.
