Grant Hill On Steve Nash’s Move to L.A.: Like ‘Going From Duke To Carolina’
Obviously, Hill’s point is easy to understand: any time a player willingly moves to a rival team, it burns. It burns the fans, the former teammates -- everyone. (Frankly, I’m not shocked but intrigued by the fact that Nash didn’t receive 0.0001 percent of the flak LeBron caught, even though Nash joined a superteam who was actually a rival of his long-time club.)
But seriously, Jalen Rose is waving his arms furiously over there, wondering why Hill didn’t consider the nuance of emotional betrayal when Hill was writing New York Times op-eds about Uncle Toms and Duke and the Fab Five.
Loyalty and betrayal, or more specifically feelings of loyalty and betrayal, are tricky things. The lack of nuance in Hill’s response to Rose didn’t respect that reality, and Hill’s new hypocrisy -- even in jest -- reminds us of that.
