Phoenix Suns forward Channing Frye will miss the entire 2012-13 NBA season after doctors discovered he had an enlarged heart.

It was initially reported that Fye would be out until at least December, but he told azcentral sports that he would miss the entire season. Frye said he will not participate in any basketball activities and will be re-evaluated in December. While he will miss the season, Frye has a chance to make a full recovery.

“The good news is it is a virus so it does have a good chance of going away,” Frye said. “My heart can be normal again.”

Frye dealt with a shoulder injury last season, but admitted his current condition is much different than the usual injury.

“It was very shocking and, at the same time, scary,” he said. “It’s not like an arm or a knee or an elbow where you’re like, ‘Maybe I can just rehab this.’ It’s something that keeps you going.”

Frye played in 64 games including 59 starts for the Suns last season. He averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
