Mavs D-League team trying to sign Allen Iverson

The Texas Legends are again trying to convince former NBA star Allen Iverson to join their team.

Allen Iverson is wanted in Texas. The D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, the Texas Legends, are hoping to convince the 37-year-old to join their team, according to ESPN Dallas/Fort Worth.

The team hopes the draw of the former All-Star being able to return to the NBA is enough to persuade him to first sign with the Legends. Iverson has stayed away from long-term, lucrative contracts overseas because of his wish to get one last shot in the NBA.

The Legends are atop the D-League’s waiver wire and have ramped up their pursuit of Iverson, who has so far this season not been convinced to join Texas.

The recent news comes after the successful signing of point guard Mike James, who was then sent to the Mavericks. Dallas signed James, like Iverson a former NBA player, to a guaranteed contract after he finished his second 10-day contract this week.

Located in Frisco, Texas, the D-League team co-owned by Dallas president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson is using its role as a career reclamation tool to pursue Iverson. The team has made a living on signing former first-round draft picks, including formerly-jettisoned Dallas guard Delonte West.
